Chemotherapy uses drugs to destroy or damage cancer cells so they can not reproduce. It is given as either a single drug or a combination of drugs; combination chemotherapy may significantly increase the amount of cancer cells that are destroyed.

Radiotherapy, also called radiation therapy, is another common treatment option. With radiation therapy, high-energy rays are used to kill cancer cells, relieve pain and pressure, decrease symptoms and improve quality of life. Radiation can be effective treatment when used alone or in combination with chemotherapy, blood and marrow transplantation, or immunotherapy.

Blood and bone marrow transplantation is a special therapy for patients with certain cancers or other marrow diseases. A blood and bone marrow transplant involves taking cells that are normally found in the bone marrow, processing those cells, and giving them back either to the patient or to another person. The goal of blood and bone marrow transplantation is to transfuse healthy bone marrow cells into a person after their own unhealthy bone marrow has been eliminated.
